Very interesting thoughtsI agree with many aspects, and want to look over it again, BUT: how can you argue that the past and future don't exist just after saying that our personal experience of the universe is what exists, which does include memories and expectations about the future?

Re: Very interesting thoughtsWe may have memories and expectations, but it's likely those are only memories and expectations - not actual events.
I guess my view is just that people seem to take the memories and expectations more seriously than the present.swb15 months ago#139reply
hmmquite controversial
but nice jobdad man15 months ago#147reply
Well, the past and the future are illusions based off our memories of how we preceive the past and our intentions for the future. But in life we experiance everything that makes the universe what it is, we just don't preceive it. Of course this would to give meaning to these things (past and future)and nothing has any meaning but what we give it. Thus past and future are illusions based off our personal meanings for them which are nothing. But then again, this is all nothing more than logical reasoning based off the above statements. And logic is the way we give meaning to the world, which is actually meaningless.Anonymous15 months ago#209reply

Science is labels on things, then structuring the labels so that the things will be altered.
Anything is real which has an influence on anything else, but there are realms of influence that don't influence other realms of influence. Thus, the pen is mightier than the sword, but not in a swordfight.BlueNight14 months ago#403reply

You get exactly what you deserve? I just read about Iranian girls who were shot in the face with acid because they went to school. How did they deserve that?soliss13 months ago#589reply
@solissYou get exactly what you deserve in the physical sense, not in the moral sense. If you walk off a cliff, you'll face the consequences. If you walk past a murderer, you'll face the consequences. It's horribly unpleasant, but it's how life works.
Nobody gets what they deserve in the moral sense, especially people like those girls in the example you gave. The only moral justice is the justice we take. The universe is indifferent and the laws of physics have never been observed to change in favor of a good person.swb13 months ago#590reply

we didn't race against millions at all, if you're talking about the first sperm cell to reach the egg, then that doesn't count b/c at that point "you" wouldn't actually be anythingAnonymous11 months ago#1111reply

I 'know' you don't like the comparison, and I'm not making it because of your stick figure characters, but more for your writing style. I am very much reminded of XKCD when I read your strip. Anonymous10 months ago#1698reply

Anonymous replied 10 months ago.
In reply to swb, comment #1728:
I don't think he meant this strip specifically. I think he meant your comic in general. And he has a good point. The two are rather similar.
But that's not a bad thing. I just discovered this comic and frankly it's just as awesome as xkcd, and I'll be reading both from now on.
Keep up the good work. =)Anonymous10 months ago#1770reply
Fun timesmy "now" dictated me to to thank you for being awesome.

If you ever start a religion, can I be the first to get some kool-aid? Seriously, I see it now.. the church of now. Mass would be whenever, it would end, well, whenever. I am going to memorize these thoughts, as I am amazed at the familiarity of the subject matter. I unfortunately, unlike the author, lack the ability to string it all together that concisely :P Tim8 months ago#2114reply
