@Enterim: False. SWB has it right. Both the phrase before and the phrase after would have to involve objects for the word to be "whomever." However, if you split it up into phrases and add articles you get this:"I would like to give thanks to him/her...""It is he/she..."The second one usually gets argued, but it is correct. Think of it this way: when answering a phone where someone asks for you, is it more correct to say "This is he/she" or "This is him/her." (Hint: The first one is correct.)Thus, you'll notice one is a subject (he/she) and another is an object (him/her).
